Bootstrap the VM-Series Firewall on KVM With a Block Storage Device
Use these instructions to bootstrap the VM-Series
firewall on a KVM server with a block storage device.
- Create the bootstrap package and the virtual hard
disk.
- Create the bootstrap package.
- Create a new disk image less than 39 GB in size and partition the disk and format the file system as ext3. The tools used to complete this process vary based on your client operating system.
- Mount the disk image file and copy the prepared bootstrap package to the disk image files.
- Copy the contents of your bootstrap package to the disk.
- Unmount the disk image.
- Upload the disk image file to a location accessible to the KVM host.
- Deploy the firewall.
- Install the VM-Series Firewall on KVM.
- Do not power on the firewall.
- Attach the bootstrap disk image to the firewall.
- In virt-manager, double click on the VM-Series firewall to open the console.
- View the VM hardware details be selecting ViewDetails.
- Open the Add New Virtual Hardware menu by clicking Add Hardware.
- Select Storage and the select Select or create custom storage.
- Click the Manage button to open the Choose Storage Volume dialog, and select the disk image file that you previously created.
- Click Choose Volume.
- Ensure that the device type is Disk Device and do not change the Bus Type.
- Click Finish.
- Power on the firewall. The firewall will begin with the bootstrapping process, which will take several minutes. The status messages on the success or failure of the process will display on the console.
- Verify Bootstrap Completion.
